Buying sneakers online: what to ask before paying

A nice product photo is a starting point. Before agreeing to buy, make sure the seller is describing the pair you will actually receive, in the size and condition you expect.

Confirm the exact pair

Ask for current photos of the available pair, including the sole, inside size label and any visible wear or marks. A catalogue image can show the style, but it may not show the condition of the item being sold. Photos alone do not prove authenticity.

Make the sizing clear

• Is the size shown in UK, US or EU sizing?
• What size is printed on the shoe's label?
• Is this the exact size currently available?
• Can the seller share measurements if you need them?

Ask directly about condition and claims

Clarify whether the shoes are new or used, whether the box is included and whether there are defects. If the seller describes them as original or authentic, ask what supports that claim. A seller's identity badge is not product authentication.

Check the total and return terms

Ask whether delivery to your area in Lagos is included. Confirm the delivery arrangement and what happens if the pair arrives in the wrong size or differs from the agreed description. Get any exchange or return conditions in writing before payment.

Keep the agreement together
